Killer is Dead Detailed

The game’s main character has a profession known as “Executioner.” He goes around the world putting an end to S level criminals. (This description is totally different from our original report, where we said that the game makes you into a prisoner out to kill your executioner. That was incorrect.)

“DON’T MAKE ME SAY IT AGAIN: I’M A CLEANER.”

The key words for the game, said Suda, are “Moon and Earth.” The main character will visit a variety of places in order to fight his enemies. These enemies apparently have something to do with the Moon.

oh fuck the moon is a key symbol in Silver Case and the Syndrome games and Killer7 oh fuck what if this IS a Kill The Past game, what if these enemies are related to the secret organization (whose name escapes me at the moment) that Edo MacAlister belongs to in FSR oh god

Other keywords and themes include “Brilliant Game” and “Love.” Love is an important theme for the game, said Suda, because the main character has someone he wants to protect, and he’s fighting for this. The idea of “How far can you protect someone” is central to the story.

Kojima, Suda51 talk Love Plus

tinycartridge:

Ridiculing Japanese dudes with Love Plus girlfriends seems passé now that mega-blog BoingBoing joined in, but this Famitsu excerpt merits mentioning because it brings Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, No More Heroes director Goichi Suda, and Love Plus together in one story.

This is Kojima relaying the tale (translated by 1UP):

“I was talking with Goichi Suda earlier, and [he] told me about this guy he saw who went to a movie theater by himself but bought two tickets. Suda was curious, so he went in with him and saw him take his DS out of his backpack, open up the case, and place it in the seat next to him. He had his ‘girlfriend’ on the screen!”

Two amusing conclusions you can glean from this story:

  1. The “guy” was probably Suda himself, or
  2. Suda spends his nights following guys into movie theaters to investigate their love lives and later share their secret shame with his friends, as if these introverts are the real weirdos

That’s right, Goichi Suda, I’m on to you.

Goichi Suda’s Rock ‘n Roll Game Studio: Where Grasshopper has been and where it’s going

There’s little doubt that Grasshopper titles go a bit off the beaten path, although that doesn’t mean Suda has an aversion to popular success. “Well, I’d like us to create a product someday that later becomes mainstream to game fans,” he told Famitsu. “To do that, we need to be counterculture, we need to be extreme with the ideas we come up with. I’ve also learned from my work with EA that you need to keep the concept as easy to explain as possible. Lollipop Chainsaw is very much that way. If I’m going to see a publisher tomorrow, I always need to have some new concept to bring to them. That’s the work I got started in, and I think this steady stream of new ideas is really important — and whenever I come up with an idea, I want to make it happen.”

Killer7… will never be easy to explain.

I bought this game the first day it was available. I have played through it more times than I can count… and am seriously considering not sleeping tonight so I can do it again.

Anyone who has talked video games with me for longer than 3 minutes knows of my obsessive love of this game… and no one has stopped me yet. WHY? WHY HAVEN’T YOU STOPPED ME?

Same here. lol Though I wasn’t able to buy it on day one, but shortly afterwards. ^^
