SIGNAL BOOST: Affordable massage therapy for queer and trans people of color

wildseedwellness:

Peace. Hopefully, by now you know that I’m working on a fundraiser to help secure a space for my massage therapy practice Wild Seed Wellness at the Living Room Project in West Oakland. We still need to raise about $1600 by JUNE 2 (less than 2 weeks away!) to reach our goal. Moving to this space will allow for 420 possible appointments in 6 months, which is significantly more than what I’m able to accomplish now out of my home.

Please consider donating what you can. Suggested donation is $25 which will also earn you the perk of a self-care package, but we’ll gladly accept $100 or $5, whatever you can give. Additionally, I ask that you repost the link to the campaign. Queer and trans people of color, this is your chance to create the change you wish to see. Allies, this is such a great way to show your support for queer and trans people of color. 62 people have donated so far. Join them.

With gratitude and excitement,

Wild Seed Wellness

The official scoop:

Wild Seed Wellness (WSW) offers affordable massage therapy for queer and trans people of color in Oakland. Massage therapy services at Wild Seed Wellness are sliding scale so that clients are able to afford to make healing a priority and a routine. The 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month are donation based days. In order to expand and offer more appointments, WSW is moving to the Living Room Project, an accessible healing justice practice/community space for queer and trans people of color, in West Oakland. Yay! Right now, it’s necessary for WSW to raise $3500 dollars by June 2 to pay for 6 months rent.

(TW - DOMESTIC ABUSE)

religiousragings:

Change.org - Free Marissa Alexander

Marissa Alexander is a mother of three children (twins plus one), and is presently incarcerated at the Pretrial Detention Facility in Jacksonville, Florida which is located in Duval county. She currently awaits sentencing because she wanted to save her own life. Marissa was convicted by a jury of 6 on 3 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with no intent to harm. Marissa Alexander did not have a criminal record before this incident.

Marissa’s husband has a documented history of violence and domestic abuse toward women. The history of Marissa Alexander and her husband includes an injunction for protection against violence and was active during August 2010. In a jealous rage, Marissa’s husband violently confronted her while she used the bathroom.  She was assaulted, shoved, strangled and held against her will. She was prevented from escaping and was not able to obtain her cell phone to call 911.

Her husband was asked to leave repeatedly. He and his two sons (Marissa’s stepsons), were supposed to have exited through the front door but, did not. Her husband entered the kitchen wich leads to the garage and saw that Marissa was unable to leave via the malfunctioning garage door. Her husband yelled “Bitch I will kill you!” and charged toward her. Marissa had retrieved her liscensed and registered gun which she owned for years before even meeting her husband – from her vehicle. She held the weapon in her right hand down by her side as he yelled, “Bitch I Will Kill You! And charged toward her. In fear and desperation, Marissa Alexander lifted her weapon, turned away and discharged a single shot in the  ceiling. As she stood her ground – that single shot prevented him from doing that which he had threatened. He ran out of the house where he contacted police and falsely reported that Marissa Alexander shot at him and his 2 sons. The police took Marissa Alexander into custody.

The state of Florida has a self-defense law which includes the right to Stand Your Ground. Marissa Alexander did not receive immunity under this law.

Alexander’s husband admitted that he was the agressor, threatened her life and was so enraged that he did not know what he would do – this being under sworn statement in November of 2010.

Alexander’s husband was arrested for domestic violence twice – once for abuse against Alexander. That attack landed Alexander in the hospital.

Visit Marissa Alexander’s blog for her story in her own words. – http://www.justiceformarissa.blogspot.com

This blog is aimed at DMAB (that’s designated male at birth) trans people. We’re tired of playing second fiddle to DFAB trans people in the queer community and having our spaces flooded exclusively with pictures and advice about binding, packing, testosterone, how to cultivate facial hair, etc. etc.

So here is a blog for you, DMAB people, where we’re going to be talking about tucking, padding, oestrogen, obliterating facial hair, makeup, clothes, and anything else your cisgender parents didn’t teach you, and your queer community was too busy elsewhere to fill you in on.

Some of the advice here will relate particularly to trans* women to do with passing, going stealth, transitioning and so on, but for the most part we’d hope that our advice will be as helpful to DMAB nonbinary trans* people to consolidate their knowledge on how to express their gender too!

so yeah i done it.

Sign the Change.org petition to let UAFS know that the world won’t stand by while they silence a transgender student. (I’ve written about Jennifer Braly before, and I’m thrilled to see her getting appropriate media coverage.) -Jess

Folks are asking: What’s next? How can we help CeCe?
Below are some solid ways to help CeCe as she awaits sentencing and while she serves her time in prison. Please spread the word, post and re-post. Don’t let the world forget about her, don’t let her be just another news story you read about once. She’s a human being who needs her community, she needs to know she’s still loved.

*Write letters to CeCe in jail to show her yr love.
http://supportcece.wordpress.com/get-involved/write-cece/

*Send CeCe books & magazines, info here: http://supportcece.wordpress.com/get-involved/send-cece-books/

*Write letters to the editor asking them to write responsible articles about CeCe’s case. We NEED to keep her story in the news.

*Write yr own articles and blog post, post, re-post, forward, spread her story far and wide.

*Organize a fundraiser for CeCe. It cost a lot to survive in prison. She needs money for commissary, phone calls, writing materials and to fund trips for her family and supporters to visit her.

*Donate directly to her. This is a link to the only official CeCe McDonald donation site. (Or you can go to her website & there’s a link there. www.supportcece.wordpress.com)

TRANS COUCHSURFING NETWORK - PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST THE HELL OUT OF THIS

racialicious:

transcouchnetwork:

Hi! I just started a tumblr, the Transgender Couchsurfing Network.  After seeing dozens of posts come across my dash about displaced or homeless trans people needing places to crash, I decided that there had to be a way to organize these posts somehow, and to put those in need in contact with those willing to lend a hand.  If you’re trans and need a place to stay, or if you have a couch or floor or spare bedroom available for someone in need, I urge you to reblog this post, follow the blog, and get the word out.  Everything is still under heavy construction, but the more people that see and hear about this blog, the more people will be able to benefit from it!  I know that there are so many people here on tumblr who are in need of a place to stay for a night or two, and I also know how many amazing, wonderful people would be willing to host someone and help out a trans person in need.  We all know what a huge problem unemployment and homelessness are for trans people (especially TPOC and trans women) — even a place to stay for a night can make the biggest difference!  So PLEASE, even if you can’t offer up your couch, REBLOG AND SIGNAL BOOST.  I really, really think that this is something that could help a lot of people, and I would LOVE to see this spammed all over my dash and the dashes of all of my lovely followers!!

SIGNAL BOOST!

Demand trans-inclusive health insurance coverage

feministische:

feministische:

Demand insurance companies accept individuals from the transgender community in their payment plans and cover transgender services. Many transgender people are denied plans or transgender service coverage by health insurance simply for more money and pure discrimination. Urge health insurances to cover ALL people and cover all transgender services, including their so called “elective” surgeries, gender reassignment.

Guys, I am seeing reblogs but no new signatures. Please, if you are going to reblog or like, take three extra seconds to sign this important petition.

Official Petition to Stop Catherine Brennan

queernonymoose:

Catherine Brennan is a lawyer in Maryland who is using their legal leverage to intimidate trans* women and their supporters from retaliating against Catherine’s venomous attacks on trans* women.

One such supporter, myself (queernonymoose on tumblr), has set up a tumblr post campaign basically outlining who to contact (the Maryland Attorney Grievance Board) to report Ms. Brennan for unethical behavior. Catherine Brennan has repeatedly sent Tumblr false accusations of my posts containing copyrighted information, and has gotten Tumblr to delete 6 posts of mine (two of which were the actual post campaigns with said information above, and one stating that I had received a complaint letter from Tumblr).

Tell Tumblr that false reports are bad, and that someone trying to claim legal power to push those false reports through is just as horrible and unethical!

Catherine Brennan’s tumblr name is bugbrennan.

For evidence of her abuses, and her false reports, please contact me via tumblr at http://queernonymoose.tumblr.com/

Want to file a grievance?

Due to numerous grievances and complaints of stalking, mistreatment, and abuse against trans* women and their allies, I am conducting a campaign for those with similar grievances to contact the Maryland Bar Association and/or the Maryland Attorney Grievance Board.

To contact the Attorney Grievance Board, visit here.

To contact the Maryland State Bar (which doesn’t handle complaints, but you are free to let them know about Catherine Brennan), visit here.

Catherine Brennan is clearly upset and knows that these grievances can come with serious consequences, hence why she has taken such drastic actions.

Please reblog widely and report this transmisogynistic radical feminist!

Donations

duessa:

As much as I hate to beg, for those who missed it, that’s just what I’m doing right now. Hubby and I are in a pickle fighting with the people at his work for the money they kind of owe us and we’re trying to keep our rent check from bouncing.

I put a donation button the front of my blog and  for anyone who can spare a few dollars for a poor starving artist, I will draw up a thank you picture. You can even request what you want!

Thanks to those who have already helped. Y’all are keeping me sane.

Support 6th grader Jackson Davis V secure 2013 Black Heritage Stamp

sluthaditcoming:

From this awesome kid’s FB page:

Please support our son, Jackson L. Davis V. Recently, he received a letter from the USPS Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee that his proposal for a 2013 Black Heritage Stamp “is under consideration.”

In February, Jackson’s teacher asked students to write about “any subject” from The Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806). Jackson choose York -was an enslaved African American that traveled with them. Since the assignment took place during Black History Month, Jack and I just happen to be at the post office replenishing our stamps and realized that York had not been acknowledge - but…Lewis and Clark have been. Therefore, Jackson wrote the committee requesting consideration for York and submitted his essay as his proposal- we put stars on the envelope to stand out!

Recent acknowledgments of York:
- In 2001, President Bill Clinton posthumously granted York the rank of honorary sergeant in the United States Army.

- A statue of York, by sculptor Ed Hamilton, with plaques commemorating the Lewis and Clark Expedition and his participation in it, stands at Louisville’s Riverfront Plaza/Belvedere, next to the wharf on the Ohio River. Another statue of York stands on the campus of Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Dedicated on May 8, 2010, it does not focus on York’s face, since no images of York are known to exist. Instead, it features fragments of William Clark’s maps “scarred” on the statue’s back.

About York
York (Sept 6, 1770 – ca. March 13, 1831) was an African American slave best known for his participation with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. As William Clark’s slave, he had to do diffficult manual labour without pay. After the expedition’s return he pressed for his freedom, which Clark opposed, he possibly agreed ten years later, though some historians dispute this and say he was never freed. Like many other enslaved African Americans, his ultimate fate is unclear.

Write CeCe

Please send a letter to CeCe while she is in jail. Let her know she has a huge amount of community support and that we are all here for her.

Public Safety Facility
Chrishaun Reed McDonald #2011014667
401 South 4th Avenue
Suite 100
Minneapolis, MN 55415

Inmates are not allowed to receive packages, including photographs.  Packages will not be accepted and will be returned to the sender.  Photographs will be removed from the envelope and returned to the inmate at the time of release.  Please note that all letters sent to the jail are opened, read, and inspected by jail staff. Use good sense about what you say in your letter, and don’t write about anything that is likely to get you or anyone else in trouble with the cops.

You can also organize a letter writing party! If you live in the area, you don’t even have to worry about paying for postage-bring your letters to the drop box for at The Exchange (3405 Chicago Ave S, Mpls) and we will mail them for you.

I am going to need to hear the reason they don’t allow photographs in jail.

Because that seems pretty fucking evil.
