Survey on general trans stuff!

inflateablefilth:

Basically, I’m looking to see at what ages my fellow trans folks first experienced some form of dysphoria and what ages people came out and sought hormonal treatment (if at all). I’ll be doing a survey every week, I think, on various things.

I’d be very grateful if you could answer and/or sig boost! Results posted next week :D

Dear trans people.

Quit putting an asterisk next to trans. I can’t help but read it as “transfarts” because it looks like a butthole just being there on its own next to the word.

Cool, thanks.
-Albert.

Are you a trans* person?

If not, why do you feel okay policing the language we choose to use?

To the best of my knowledge the asterisk makes trans* more inclusive of non binaries than trans does.

Being fairly binary I use trans for myself but trans* usually to refer to the broader community.

Are you a trans* person? If not, why do you feel okay policing the language we choose to use?
^Implying that it’s fine if I’m trans, but not okay if I’m not?

It doesn’t matter whether or not I’m trans, I’ll say what I like. I wasn’t “policing your language”, I was making a joke about something that annoys me slightly.

The asterisk doesn’t magically make the word more inclusive either. It’s not a magic doorway that invites all people of a non-binary gender identity into the swingin’ trans party. It’s a symbol that looks like a butthole when it’s only on one side of a word.

If you are trans* you have a stake in this and your opinion is valid. If you are not you can kindly shut the fuck up about it. I wasn’t implying anything, I was outright saying it.

You can say whatever you please, as can I. You know what annoys me slightly. Cissexist people who insist on trans* people living their lives in a manner that pleases cis people. OUR LIVES AND THE LANGUAGE WE USE TO DESCRIBE OURSELVES IS NOT FOR YOU TO DECIDE. Do me a favor and don’t make jokes that are even tangentially related to trans* issues.

How’s your familiarity with boolean search terms? The asterisk returns all variations on what comes before the asterisk. That means trans* makes sense for this application because it returns all variations on trans.

So next time you think of witty repartee having to do with trans* issues, make sure you know what the fuck you’re talking about.

^^^

Oh, it’s okay for me to be a complete rudeass, but you can’t say anything about it, even if you’re a part of the group who’s language I’m policing
Like hell you weren’t policing. Telling someone not to say something is INDEED language policing.

Ikanii, shut up. Shut up you giant, greasy bag of cissexist horse crap.
Trans* folks don’t have to do what you want.

[TW FOR ANTI-TRANS AND RACIST VIOLENCE AND HATE SPEECH]

SUPPORT CECE MCDONALD!

CeCe McDonald is a young African American transgender woman charged with “second degree murder” after an incident that began when she was violently attacked because of her gender and race.

DROP the charges and FREE CeCe!

CeCe is a creative and energetic person who, before her life was so unjustly interrupted, was studying fashion at MCTC. She had a stable home where she lived with and helped support four other African American youth, her family. CeCe’s family describes her as a leader, a role model, and a loyal friend. She is known as a wise, out-spoken, and welcoming person, with a cheerful disposition and a history of handling prejudice with amazing grace.

Around 12:30 am on June 5, CeCe and four of her friends (all of them black) were on their way to Cub Foods to get some food. As they walked past Schooner’s Bar in South Minneapolis, a man and two women (all of them white) began to yell epithets at them. They called CeCe and her friends ‘faggots,’ ‘niggers,’ and ‘chicks with dicks,’ amongst other things.

As they were shouting, one of the women smashed her drink into the side of CeCe’s face, slicing her cheek open, lacerating her salivary gland, and stinging her eyes with liquor. A fight ensued, with more people joining in. What happened during the fight is unclear, but within a few minutes Dean Schmitz–one of the attackers–had been stabbed.

CeCe was later arrested, and is now falsely accused of murder

For a month, CeCe was kept in solitary confinement “for her own protection”; she had no say in this matter. Finally, she was transferred to a psychiatric unit in the Public Safety Facility. It was nearly two months before she was taken back to a doctor to check up on the wound on her face, which by then had turned into a painful, golf ball-sized lump.

Later on, CeCe’s friends were harassed on the street by people they recognized from the scene of the fight. Individuals circled the block that CeCe’s friends were walking on and called them ‘niggers’ and ‘faggots’ and told them to ‘go back to Africa.’ When they attempted to wave down a passing squad car for assistance, the officer driving the car said he would not help them.

Help us fight for CeCe, and for an end to racist, transphobic violence in our communities! Visit our What You Can Do page and find out how to get involved.

isn’t it about fucking time we had a genderqueer pronoun?

mynameislyddy:

-excited hand movements-

There are loads! As well as Singular They (they/them/their/theirs/themself) theres these ones, some put twice coz they’re done differently by different people.

Ze: ze/hir/hir/hirs/hirself

Ze: ze/zir/zir/zirs/zirself

Ze: ze/zem/zir/zes/zemself

Ne: ne/nem/nir/nirs/nemself

Ne: ne/nir/nir/nirs/nirself

Spivak: e/em/eir/eirs/emself

Spivak: ey/em/eir/eirs/emself

Per(son: per/per/pers/pers/perself

You can also use it, if you want to. Some people do.

For my followers who’re interested in different pronouns.

Removing your gender on facebook so gender neutral pronouns are used.

asexual-walks-of-life:

gender-fuckery:

This is kind of complicated to explain, so I shall try my best.

It’s easiest to do this on Firefox or Safari- for Safari, you’ll need to turn the developer’s option on (by going to preferences, then advanced options, then checking the box at the bottom). For Firefox, you need to download firebug.

Go on to ‘Edit my Profile’ and right-click on the gender field, and select ‘Inspect Element’.

A new window will open with a bunch of coding. Right-click on the line that is highlighted, and select ‘Edit as html’.

I had female selected on my facebook, so I then copied the ‘<option value=”2”>Male</option>’ section of the code, and pasted it straight after itself.

In this new pasted section, change the ‘2’ to a ‘0’, and change ‘Male’ to whatever you want (it doesn’t matter what you change it to because it will just come up as Select Gender’).

After this, exit the Inspect Element window, select this new gender field, and save the profile changes. It should come up with ‘Select gender’, and facebook will use they/their etc as pronouns.

Any problems, don’t hesitate to ask.

I took great advantage in this, very happy!

Why are people ALWAYS trying to centre discussions on privilege on the privileged people?

cydne-should-be-sleeping:

The worst thing? This shit inevitably comes from people who consider themselves liberals. If I wanna talk about how I have a hard time dealing with seeing dudes at my bar laugh at ‘fat’ women who are my size, someone just has to bring up ‘oh, but somebody told me to eat a sandwich once’. If I talk about how I hate autistic folks being seen as a burden, someone just has to talk about how hard it is for parents of autistic kids to ‘deal with us’. If I talk about how my mother’s head-in-the-sand attitude towards my gender and sexuality hurts me, someone just has to say that its soooo hard for parents to deal with this kinda stuff and act like my being trans and queer is about as hard for her to deal with as if I’d murdered someone. If I talk about how my mental illness is hard to deal with, someone just has to talk about how much of a chore I must be for my partner to deal with.

This shit is just wrong. If you’re privileged over me on some axis, and I need to talk about an issue pertaining to that, do NOT make it about you.

We didn’t keep in touch, though, so I didn’t know about this website or his surgery. If you guys can reblog this or donate some money, I would really appreciate it. Chris is an awesome guy, and could really use the help.

Thanks for letting me know about this!

Can we stop with the fucking “Stealth trans people are traitors” bullshit? PLEASE? NOW? [TRIGGER WARNING: anti-queer violence]

october-in-the-chair:

SERIOUSLY

Wanna know what happens sometimes when trans people are not stealth?

I know. I know really fucking well.

THEY GET BEAT UP

THEY GET HARASSED

THEY GET DISCRIMINATED AGAINST

You know what happened the last time I was open about being queer to people I did not know who were not in the queer community?

I GOT BEAT UP. I GOT FOLLOWED TO AN EMPTY STREET BY TWO QUEER-HATING PRICKS, AND I GOT BEAT THE FUCK UP.

SO CAN WE PLEASE FUCKING STOP WITH THE FUCKING “STEALTH TRANS PEOPLE ARE TRAITORS” BULLSHIT?

Thank you!

People shouldn’t get hate just because they can’t or don’t want to be out in the open about this sort of thing. No matter why they feel the need to hide their identity or sexuality, it’s a valid enough reason for us to respect it, even if it doesn’t make sense to you or I.
